Our Camp
At A Glance
For thirty years the Niven family have been exploring the wonderful gems that Okavango Delta, Botswana has on offer so for us it was logical to try and recreate something enduring at Cha Cha Metsi.
Clyde had a clear vision of what he wanted to create, an enduring, symbiotic relationship with nature and people where families can experience all the Okavango Delta has to offer. Therefore it was logical for us to partner with the local community to create a legacy for our local partners and our children. Cha Cha Metsi is a private Camp located in a community area within the the largest concession of the Okavango Delta called NG 32. It’s rare that a Camp in the delta can celebrate both land-based Safaris from open vehicles and channels of permanent waterways to explore via Mokoro.
This makes the camp perfect for an extended 4 or 5-night stay. The area has a large resident population of elephants, leopards, and lions. You can hear them from the camp on a nightly basis and although not promised, can result in daily sightings. There is and abundance of buffalo, giraffes, zebra, and a host of other wildlife typical of this area of the Okavango Delta swamp. The camp lies 50km North East of Maun and sits on the gateway to the Okavango Delta.
A mere 20 minutes by helicopter or and exciting 1hr 45min by open land rover brings our guest to an intimate pristine camp. Etched into a century-old leadwood forest on the edge of a large permanent lagoon that forms part of the main Santantadibe Channel. The indigenous name of the lagoon “Gama tau” means gathering place of lions. The concession, South of Chitabe, offers an exciting, game-rich safari while the camp overlooks permanent water all year round. Although the topography appears flat, the area is fringed by Knob thorn and Acacia trees. The vegetation is varied, from flood plains and open pans systems lined with Fan Palm trees, to the riverine forests with ancient trees on to a myriad of waterways and floodplains lined with reed beds, groaning with hippo life.

Our story
Clyde embarked on the building of our camp in 2021. The camp is built on decks overlooking a permanent lake. The design and décor is a deliberate return to a bygone era of the 1920’s. Year round water and land activities produce exceptional game viewing.
Smuggled away under a cool Leadwood and Knob-Thorn forest canopy, one can expect picturesque water views from all tents. Resident hippos keep you entertained and sometimes awake at night. Through the Okavango Delta, Cha Cha Metsi brings out a classic yet sophisticated ambience amongst our guests.
Our guiding philosophy is to use only local guides under the mantra “Touch the Earth Lightly”. These are local guides who have lived in one of the only 2 villages inside the buffalo fence within the actual Okavango Delta Wetland.
The central living space is steeped in our history and show artifacts from a rich history in pioneering. As our children form an integral part of our journey we offer two family units that sleep four people. And four Meru tents for couples.
Activities include early morning game drives and sunset drives. Mokoros on our lake and water ways with our local community, walking safaris with a guide and rifle and then last but not least horseback safaris for experienced riders.
